An Electronic Wall unit changes a manual kiln (kiln sitter or pyrometer) to an electronically controlled kiln or can be purchased with a new kiln for individuals who prefer having the controller on the wall instead of the kiln. The wall unit is placed on the wall away from the kiln and is connected to the power cord or wiring of the kiln. The thermocouple from the wall unit is inserted into the kiln for the controller to display the kiln temperature.
Electronic wall units are designed to make a manual kiln (equipped with a pyrometer or kiln sitter) into an electronically controlled kiln. The kiln sitter remains on the kiln and the electronic controller housed in the wall unit is positioned on a wall near the kiln. Electronic controllers are available as 120-volt units, 30- or 50-amp units, or 100-amp units. Three-phase wiring may be added to the wall unit as an option.
To operate the kiln through the electronic wall unit:
- Drill a hole the size of the thermocouple through the kiln wall and insert the thermocouple from the wall unit into the kiln approximately one inch.
- Attach wall mount controller vertically to the wall.
- Plug or direct wire wall unit to the power source
- Plug or direct wire the kiln into the wall unit
